2013 Motto: Desiderata

Many may years ago as a child I was rummaging through my dad's dusty library in the basement. One of my great finds besides his broken guitar was an old scroll like piece of paper. At the time I could barely say the name right at the top of the paper so I brought it to my dad. He informed me of this poem..i guess you could call it that. It was written by Max Ehrmann and is entitled "Desiderata". I will leave it up to you to interpret what it means to you but this poem has always stuck with me. It resonates with me even more so now than it ever did before now that I have more years of life under my belt. As we approach 2013 I thought it would be good to share as this is a time of reflection for many.

God Bless you all in 2013 and beyond!!!

DYH: Tables and Chairs

Design Your Home....with Tables and Chairs! Hey y'all, I just wanted to give you a peak into my home design with tables and chairs. Long before this blogging life I inherited some old furniture from a family member. I decided to spray paint it to fit my design aesthetic. Unfortunately, I did this a few years ago and I never thought to take pictures! But just imagine wood brown dusty old furniture. And then see what I did with a little paint and elbow grease....

I got this bowl from Pier One years ago. I LOVE the colors..
Dining Room Table Top
Dining Room Table - Black Gloss Spray Paint & Ivory
There are 6 chairs in total included in this table
I love furniture with curves just like me ;-)
My mom helped me by covering the chairs with new fabric
Sofa Console Table
Bar Stools
Side table -Another Project for me to do!

Well that's it for Tables and Chairs...This was my first furniture project ever! Although now this furniture is a little banged up and scratched I think imperfections bring character! This dining room set and console table took a good amount of effort but at the same time it was cool to do because for some reason I find this kind of stuff relaxing. Please be on the look out for more furniture projects to come!

Basic Black Winter White

Hey ya'll!

This past weekend I attended my college friend's baby shower. It was really nice and it was the first co-ed baby shower I have been to which was cool. People really do it up nice for baby showers these days! My friend looked so cute preggers! Anyways, lets get down with the get down and check out the outfit I wore to celebrate...

Dress: Cato
Purse: Forever 21
Boots, Bracelet & Tights: Avenue

Funny enough the bag I am carrying I bought from forever 21 but it looks to be sold out online. However, there is a one very familiar to this one sold at Zara for $170. I'm glad I bought it from Forever 21 for like $30...way less than have the cost of the Zara bag. I was not about to pay all that money for a purse...leather or not.

The Color of Love

This past Saturday I spent my Thanksgiving weekend celebrating the love between my long time friend and his now wife in their union as husband and wife! I have been looking for some time for the most perfect red dress and I have found it! Although I tend to blend in at special events I decided to represent how I felt in my fashion choice by wearing my favorite color. The color I associate with love the most is red.

Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. It has very high visibility, which is why stop signs, stoplights, and fire equipment are usually painted red. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage. It is a color found in many national flags. (

Although red is my favorite color I hardly ever wear it! But as I have gotten older I have made a resolve with myself to take more chances including fashion chances by wearing what I love. The look I was going for was an old Hollywood vintage and romantic style...

Shenanigans in Chicago

Hey yall, I had to take a trip to Chicago for my job. I usually go to Chicago every summer anyways since its rite next door to the hometown. I decided to make a weekend out of it and catch some type of fun before the summer ends.

For the leisure part of my Chicago weekend I stayed at the Omni Hotel in downtown. I must say I really enjoyed my stay. The rooms or suites are so spacious, comfy and clean. They even have a wet bar in the sitting room! The hotel itself is smack dab in the middle of everything fun on Michigan Ave. The perfect location, accommodations, and excellent guest services. I should have figured this hotel was nice since its the place where Oprah put up her guests when she had her show. During the business part of my trip I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel downtown. I was disappointed in this hotel..I know that it is older but the rooms were so small that my coffee maker was in my bathroom..yuck! Not to mention that I reserved a king size bed with my group and they gave me 2 double beds at the very end of the hallway next to the laundry shoot..booo! Thankfully I didn't spend my own money at this hotel. Take a look at a pic below from my room at the Omni Hotel...

Casino and Cruise...
My homegirl and I went to the Horseshoe Casino in Southern Indiana to have some drinks and play the slots...I am not a gambler but what the hey why not. My homegirl played blackjack and doubled her money! We had a good time and snapped a couple of pics before security came up to us saying that picture taking was not allowed on the casino floor.
This game was addicting..
