Broke and Beautiful Buys: JCPenny, Avenue, TJ Maxx, & DSW

This past weekend I did a little shopping with some friends. I am still in the process of tighten up my spring/summer wardrobe. I really don't want to buy too much but I know there were a few key pieces I needed and really wanted. Anyways, there are just a few things I bought either because I wanted, needed or it was a good sale!
For the last 2 weekends Avenue had a 40% off everything in the store sale so I took advantage and  pick up the 2 items you see below. The comfy and cute nude/pink flats below from Avenue are the perfect shoe for me especially when going to work or running errands. I got these for about $24.

These sunglasses are from Avenue as well. I am really picky about sunglasses. They never seem to look right on me but these work for me. And they were only $6.

I found this top below in TJ Maxx for $11. TJ Maxx can be hit or miss for me but I thought this snake print kimono style top would be nice for the summer. It looks so much better on...outfit post to come.

I bought these shoes from DSW they are BC BG. As I have said before it so so hard for me to find shoes that fit! Especially cute heels so when I find a pair in my size I almost have to get them! And these shoes were a splurge for me at like $80.  Even though the heel is pretty high they are really comfortable and that is why I love platforms!!

This color blocked flowy top is from JCPenny. I bought this for like $20...I must say I kind of miss the sales at JCPenny...I would get unbelievable deals. There is nothing like finding coupons and catching a good sell. What do you guys think? Do you like the new pricing at JCPenny?

Thats it! What is your favorite Item from my shopping haul? Do you have spring/summer essential that you have yet to buy? Let me know!

Put On For My City

For St. Patties day, I met up with a couple of good friends. We dined at Andiamos on the river in downtown Detroit. This is a great place to go for a date night with your boo! They have live music too. The food was spectacular and the views were beautiful. Im so mad I forgot to take pics of our meals..I am bad at taking pics I am so busy living life that I forget the pics! Anyways the dish I enjoyed was the Capellini con Fruitti di Mare. This dish has angel hair pasta tossed with gulf shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams and calamari sautéed with extra virgin olive oil, garlic and basil in a spicy marinara style sauce. It was divine!! After dining at Andiamos we went for drinks at Floods Bar and Grill. Even though I didn't get to snap any food photos I did get a couple of pics of what I wore that night...

That's Canada in the background

I was laughing at something my friend said

Whats Cookin' Good Lookin': Date Night Dinner

My boo and I often like to have low key date nights which usually includes dinner and a movie at home. I like to consider myself to be adventurous when it comes to food but my boo not so much. Its hard to feed this guy when he loves: tacos, hamburgers, spaghetti, and pizza. To me that is boring and not really healthy. Sometimes it can be hard to get a guy to eat vegetables too! So in an effort to come to some kind of compromise I made a pasta dish with a little more flavor and ingredients than usual.

"Date Night Pasta"

The finished product

Pasta and Alfredo Sauce

In the oven

Chop these ingredients and Sauteed:
Smoked Sausage
Fresh Spinach
Bell Peppers
Fresh Minced Garlic
Olive Oil

Add in:
1 Jar Pasta Sauce
~ 1 cup Alfredo Sauce (I like my sauce to be reddish or pink, you can do whatever you like)
Mozzarella Cheese 2-3 cups? (Save some to sprinkle on the top)

Boil and Add in: Pasta Noodles - Rigatoni 16oz

  • Mix all the ingredients together, pour into a casserole dish, sprinkle with cheese on top and bake for 15-20 minutes on 350 degrees.
Easy and so good! I can only eat this on special occasions because its so rich!

"Salad and Homemade salad dressing"

Leaf lettuce
Broccoli Slaw
Red Bell Peppers

Apple Cider Vinegar
Raw Honey
Olive Oil
Red Pepper Flakes

I love this salad dressing so tasty and good for you; better than store bought. Each ingredient has wonderful benefits for your health.

DYL: An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Design Your Life (DYL):
Every once in a while you see something that challenges common beliefs. I saw this video on Youtube that did just that for me in regards to aging and health. Everyone says when you get old you will become slow moving, sagging skin and  just plain elderly. Well folks that is untrue with proper diet and exercise you can still remain youthful in appearance and energy for many years to come. Many people think they know what the proper diet for good health consists of but this video below may change what you perceive to be as a good diet. Check it out....

This woman was able to sustain a youthful appearance and energy well into 70 years of age!! Also, not to be rude but did you see her husband? He made the choice to not follow the same diet plan as her and you can see the difference. Many of us in our 20s and 30s don't look this good or have this amount of energy. As it was stated in the video her diet consisted mostly of raw fruits and vegetables. Of course this lifestyle will not work overnight but as she says in the video you build up to this diet.

Another thing that reconfirmed that this lifestyle is the way to go was a book that my grandmother gave to me many years ago. My grandmother looks really good for her age and gets around well. Both of my grandmothers are advocates for healthy lifestyles and some of this information I retained as a child and some of it fell on deaf ears. As a younger person you think that you are invincible. The truth of the matter is what you do or don't do now in your youth will affect you in old age. You must fight to preserve your sexy now!

Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has been something we have always kept in our house when I was growing up. My mom use to give it to me mixed with warm water whenever I had a sore throat. Let me tell you folks this stuff is AMAZING!!! Some people may be familiar with Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) because a lot of natural hair woman use it to rinse their hair. Well let me tell you if you don't know, it has several more benefits that I will tell you about below!

Now when I talk about Apple Cider Vinegar I am not talking about that white or clear vinegar you may see in the store or have in your cabinets. This stuff is a brown-orange murky color with sediment minerals or as it is called "The Mother" sitting at the bottom of the jar. This is the stuff you want to buy from now on. Its raw and unfiltered...The Mother contains all the nutrients, minerals and amino acids that your body needs to function like a well oiled machine. ACV is made from apples fermented in wooden barrels. I know it may not sound appetizing and it has a tangy taste but its one of the best keys to health!

The Benefits:
  • Aids in digestion and cleansing of the body
  • Kills germs, bacteria, virus and mold
  • High in: Potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, sulfur, iron, copper, fluorine, silicon, trace minerals, essential amino acids, pectin
  • Encourages the growth of healthy bacteria in your intestines
  • Eases menstrual cramps
  • Weight loss
  • Clears Acne
  • Softens skin
  • Helps balance your ph making your body more alkaline
  • Aids in keeping a healthy heart via the blood vessels and arteries

  • Daily youth elixir drink: ACV + Raw Honey (or Stevia) + Distilled Water
  • Foot bath
  • Hair rinse after shampooing
  • Sunburn
  • Gargle -Sore throats and sinus infections
  • Clears acne
  • Cleaning your home
  • In your food to make sauces and as a condiment or dressing

There are many more benefits and uses! I encourage you to do your own research to see what it can do for you.

I guess that is why the old saying goes "an apple a day keeps the doctor away"! Give it a try and see what benefits you experience.

Cheers to great health!

Happy almost Friday,

Khaki Chinos: Asos Curve
Pumps: Thrifted / Target
Earrings: Thrifted
Bracelets: Avenue

And it wouldn't be right if I didn't leave you with a bit of poetry. One of my favorite poems. I read it whenever I feel like I am losing sight of what it means to be successful...

by: Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty,
To find the best in others,
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
A garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
